Here are some translations of the first verse: Since we perceive the world, we must agree unanimously that there is a power which is capable of becoming multiple. The picture of name and form, he who sees it, the cloth on which it is based and the light which illuminates it are all oneself. (Collected Works, 1968) Since we know the world, we must concede for both a common Source, single but with the power of seeming many. The picture of names and forms, the onlooker, the screen, the light that illumines — all these are verily He. (From the Collected Works in pdf format, downloadable from Sri Ramanasramam: www.sriramanamaharshi.org/Allpub.html) The following is from Sri Lakshmana Sarma's Revelation. LS translated the Forty Verses into Sanskrit after receiving lessons from Ramana about the Tamil Forty: Since we see the world, (it follows that) there does exist a source of it, a sole Reality transcending (world and mind), of whose power all this is a becoming; this is beyond dispute. This cinema-show of names and forms, their sustaining screen, the light (of Consciousness), and the spectator, — all these four are only that Supreme Being, who is the Real Self within the Heart. .

It seems Ramana uses here again the example of the cinema-show for illustration.
Here a German attempt:
"Da wir alle die Welt wahrnehmen, stimmt jeder damit überein, dass es eine Erste Ursache gibt, deren kreative Energie sich mannigfach manifestiert. Das Bild, das aus Namen und Formen besteht, der Zuschauer, die Leinwand und das Licht, das sie beleuchtet, all das ist das Selbst."
